Ian has over 25 years’ experience working in public policy, regulation and program delivery. He currently provides advisory services to consulting firms in the areas of government relations, regulatory affairs and environmental policy. Ian has extensive public sector leadership experience.
At the Department of Premier and Cabinet, Ian led development of whole-of-government policy on resource access, land use planning, local government administration and the environment. Applying highly sophisticated mediation and negotiation skills, Ian led the resolution of complex policy challenges such as regulatory reform of coal seam gas exploration and extraction. He built and maintained networks across government to ensure government priorities were delivered on time and on budget. Ian was the lead negotiator for the NSW Government on complex inter-governmental issues.
At the Office of Environment and Heritage, Ian provided leadership to the operations group of over 500 staff. He delivered highly complex programs such as coastal management, native vegetation compliance, major project assessment and energy productivity. Ian inspired a customer-focused culture of delivery in the group. Ian was a member of the OEH Executive and played a critical role in strategic planning, corporate governance and policy development.
